THE ADVENTURES OF PINK BOAT STUDIOS: CARLI BAY
A long narrow road took us into our destination. As we approached the bay, the road was lined with strategically placed palm trees and small yellow plants. Patrice stopped to capture this approach as it really was quite attractive.
Soca music played from a car speaker nearby as we approached a vendor selling trini sweets. Several boats lined the shore looking well worn by the sea. A cool breeze rustled the leaves of the almond trees above, giving momentary relief from the warm rays of the golden setting sun. Butterflies flitted around beds of flowers planted in old tyres. A few stray dogs looked for food on the ground. We walked towards the boats which Patrice made sure to capture. In the distance, at the horizon were the bluish hills of the northern range and heavenly cloud formations. The sun glinted against the gentle crashing waves as a flock of birds skirted the surface of the water. The sand was moist underfoot from earlier showers.
Patrice put her foot up on one of the overturned fishing boats to capture two silhouetted boats. Beautiful iridescent oyster shells and light green coconuts littered the shore near deep trenches in the sand. Fishing nets lay like blankets on an unmade bed in the fishing boats. The waves crashed on the side of a blue and green fishing boat, while on the side of another boat hung two old tyres. Most of the boats were light blue in colour and were of a decent size. A group of fishermen pushed one of the boats out to sea.
Out at sea were several tugs and barges that are used to take equipment out to the oil rigs, and further out we could see across to Port of Spain and Down the Islands. The barges kick up a lot of water and in doing so bring a lot of fish to the surface so we witnessed several birds swooping to the surface to eat them. And overhead flew large flocks of majestic scarlet ibis heading towards Caroni.
The sun started to set, bright and orange like a fireball in the sky. The clouds were highlighted by the sun's rays. I watched as Patrice effortlessly captured the beauty of this striking scene. As the beach grew darker we decided to leave this peaceful spot, feeling very satisfied to have come to such a beautiful location to take photos.
